UNSW Sydney has ranked number one nationally for Mathematics in the 2024 QS World University Rankings. Globally, UNSW featured in the top 50 for Mathematics, at 44th in the world. 

UNSW has also ranked equal first in Australia for Statistics and Operational Research.

Eight other subjects at UNSW ranked number one in Australia: Civil & Structural Engineering; Electrical & Electronic Engineering; Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering; Materials Sciences; Accounting & Finance;  Business & Management Studies; Marketing; and equal first in Performing Arts.

Published annually since 2011, the global QS Subject Rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research citations.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW has long been a top performer in Mathematics nationally in a range of rankings, including the US News Global Universities Rankings, Times Higher Education, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
