Professor Mimi Zou brings with her a wealth of experience, expertise, and a remarkable record of accomplishments in the field of law, particularly in exploring the intersection of new technologies with private and commercial law.

Professor Zou's research is at the forefront of understanding the impact of emergent technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain on legal frameworks. Her work delves into the regulatory challenges posed by these technologies from both comparative and international perspectives.

Reflecting on her appointment, Professor Zou shared, "I am honoured to lead one of the most outstanding hubs for private and commercial law research and teaching in Australia and globally. I am excited to collaborate with my esteemed colleagues and students at UNSW to push the boundaries of legal scholarship and address some of the most pressing challenges facing our society today. On a personal note, it is wonderful to be back in Australia after fifteen years abroad. I look forward to spending more time with my family and friends here."

With an illustrious academic journey spanning prestigious institutions across the UK, Hong Kong, and beyond, Professor Zou has solidified her position as a leading authority in commercial law. Prior to joining UNSW, she held distinguished positions including the Chair in Commercial Law at the University of Exeter and the first-ever Fellowship in Chinese Law at the University of Oxford.

In addition to her academic endeavours, Professor Zou has actively contributed to shaping legal policies and practices on a global scale, advising governmental bodies and international organisations. Her influence extends to her membership in the LawtechUK Panel and advisory roles with the UK Ministry of Justice and the Judiciary.

Professor Zou begins her appointment as the Head of the School of Private & Commercial Law at UNSW Law & Justice in May 2024.
