What is Gateway?
UNSW Gateway supports students who are underrepresented in higher education. The initiative is made up of two parts: the Gateway Admission Pathway and the Gateway Program. Both are designed to maximise your post-high school success and help you get into your dream degree at UNSW.
Who is Gateway for?
The Gateway Admission Pathway is for students in Year 12 who attend a Gateway school or live in a low-socioeconomic area based on IRSAD or IEO indexes of SEIFA.
Check your eligibility
To be eligible for the Gateway Admission Pathway, you must:
- be an Australian Permanent Resident, Australian Citizen, or New Zealand Citizen
- be completing an Australian Year 12 qualification in the year of application
- attend a Gateway school or live in a low-socioeconomic area based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.
Check our list below to see if you attend a Gateway school. Don't see your school on the list or unsure if you're eligible? Contact us.
Are you an international student?
UNSW Gateway is only available for domestic students, but there are other ways we can help you get into UNSW.
You’ll find information about alternative entry pathways and Academic and English programs at UNSW College.

You’re more than your ATAR
We’ve lowered the UNSW ATAR requirements on hundreds of UNSW degrees, exclusively for you.
When you apply for the Gateway Admission Pathway, you’ll select two degrees you’d like to be considered for. If you don’t receive an early offer, you may receive a conditional offer with a significantly reduced ATAR requirement.
What is an early offer?
An early offer secures your spot at UNSW before you sit the HSC. As long as you complete your exams and attain an ATAR, you’ll be offered a place in your chosen degree, regardless of your results.
What is a conditional offer?
A conditional offer means we’ll assess your uni application based on your ATAR results. Our UNSW ATAR requirements are significantly lower than the standard selection rank.
UNSW early entry & adjusted ATAR requirements
Our Gateway Admission Pathway gives you the opportunity to receive an early offer or gain entry to UNSW based on a significantly lower ATAR requirement. This quick video explains how it works.
