Our culture
UNSW Medicine & Health maintains a strong commitment towards valuing the differences among our staff and students and ensuring the faculty has an equitable, diverse and inclusive culture where everybody has a sense of belonging and feels they can thrive. Through the UNSW Medicine & Health Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee (MHEDIC), we're committed to removing barriers which impede equity, diversity and inclusion through initiatives that benefit staff and students. These initiatives align with our faculty’s Health 25 Strategy and UNSW’s 2025 Strategy to be an international exemplar in equity, diversity and inclusion.
Dedicated to social equity and inclusion
We prioritise social equity and inclusion by delivering effective medical research and education to Indigenous and rural communities. UNSW School of Clinical Medicine produces some of Australia's most diverse and well-rounded medical practitioners due to its multiple rural campuses across NSW and exclusive entry schemes for Indigenous and rural students. We have one of the largest cohorts of Indigenous students in the country. We’re also the only NSW-based essential partner of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) in Aboriginal Health, known also as the Lowitja Institute, Australia’s National Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research.
