UNSW Canberra has revealed updated designs for Stage 1 of its new Canberra City campus development and is now undertaking a period of public consultation.

Developed over the past six months following initial feedback, the revised Stage 1 designs are a key step towards the realisation of the UNSW Canberra City campus Master Plan.

The revisions made to the original designs integrate the feedback that was received and have resulted in a distinct and expressive building design that will add to the vibrancy of the city.

The Stage 1 development includes the construction of two multi-use contemporary buildings that will host teaching and research spaces, retail offerings, cultural and student-focused spaces, and facilities for new and existing industry partners.

Stage 1 is the first of four stages to be built as part of the UNSW Canberra City Master Plan and is expected to be completed from 2026. The Stage 1 development is located at the corner of Constitution Avenue and Coranderrk Street in Parkes.

The Canberra community is encouraged to provide feedback on the updated plans and to help shape the development of UNSW Canberra City campus. Canberrans can have their say on the updated plans until 26 May 2024.

There are a number of ways people can review and provide feedback on the revised plans, including face-to-face at pop-up locations, via email, or completing a short online questionnaire.

About the UNSW Canberra City campus and the Stage 1 development

UNSW Canberra is expanding and establishing a new campus in Canberra’s CBD to be called UNSW Canberra City.

Building on UNSW Canberra’s 55-year history in the capital, the new Canberra City campus will allow UNSW to expand its offering by delivering world class education, research, and innovation within the National Triangle.

In April 2023, the ACT Government approved the UNSW Canberra City Master Plan, which guides the campus development and provides a robust foundation to guide the development of the campus and realise UNSW’s campus vision.

The Plan encompasses the University’s vision for the campus and responds to the detailed design and planning guidelines set out by the ACT Government and the National Capital Authority (NCA), including how the campus development is integrated into the city and surrounding environment.
